Why is HR Important to a Growing Business?

HR helps you stay on top of the employment laws!

Here are Some Laws That You Will Need to Know as Your Business Grows

As your company grows, not only will you need to hire more employees, but there are many requirements that will also start to kick in. These can range from additional benefits to internal changes. We have listed a few of the more important changes you will need to start thinking about as you expand your business.

Employee Benefits
Depending on the type of staff members you have, you will need to look into various types of benefits programs. These can change and depend on state, local, and federal laws. This is one of the many reasons to keep your job descriptions up to date, as they can determine what types of benefits you will need.

Labor Law Compliance
The biggest requirement you will need to meet comes at the 50 employee threshold. The Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) will demand a change in Handbook and policies. Other compliance regulations, such as the Affordable Care Act (ACA) will also kick in.

Standard Operating Procedures
When your company goes through a big change, it is always a good idea to revisit your Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). A policy that worked for 10 employees may not work for 20. Building a strong policy foundation will help your company run smoothly into the future.

Harassment Training
Another important 50-employee threshold will be on the topic of Anti-Harassment Training. You will need to begin providing mandatory training for every employee, manager, and even the CEO. We recommend that you start training earlier to protect yourself from liability, but the training will become required at 50 employees.
