HR Compliance Update- Washington: Tukwila Minimum Wage and Fair Scheduling Enacted

by | May 30, 2023

Effective July 1, 2023, employers with at least 15 employees worldwide or an annual gross revenue of over $2 million must pay employees in the City of Tukwila an hourly wage that exceeds the state-required wage. Large employers, those with more than 500 employees worldwide, must pay $18.99 an hour and other employers, those with 15 to 500 employees worldwide, must pay $16.99 per hour. On January 1, 2024, and on each January 1 thereafter, the hourly wage will be adjusted for inflation.

Employers must also:

Pay all tips, gratuities, and service charges to covered employees in addition to the minimum wage; and
Offer additional hours of work to qualified part-time employees before hiring additional employees or subcontractors.
The law doesn’t apply to employers with fewer than 15 employees and an annual gross revenue under $2 million.
