Starting October 1, 2025, employers of all sizes will be required to provide unpaid leave to employees who are volunteer members of the Nevada Wing of the Civil Air Patrol for emergency training and response. Specifically, employees will be allowed to take the following amounts of leave per federal fiscal year (October 1 through September 30):

Up to 10 workdays to train for emergency missions
Up to 30 workdays to respond to an emergency mission (including search and rescue and disaster response missions)
Employers can’t require that employees exhaust other leave they are entitled to before using leave under this law.

Action Items

Add a Civil Air Patrol leave policy to your handbook. Or, if you use our Smart Employee Handbook, accept the update when you receive the platform notification.
Ensure that managers are aware of these new protections and are providing appropriate time off.
