Missouri Repeals Earned Paid Sick Time

by | Jul 17, 2025

Missouri’s earned paid sick time (EPST) law—approved by voters last November and effective since May 1—has officially called in sick. The governor recently signed off on a bill to repeal the law, effective August 28, 2025. Employees will continue to earn paid sick time through that date, and unless the state issues alternative guidance, we believe they’ll be entitled to use those hours even after August 28. We’ll provide another update if additional (useful) information is released.

Action Item
If you want to discontinue sick leave that was provided pursuant to the EPST law, amend your current policies to include an end date for accrual.
